V.A. Salinas is a chronically ill Zillennial author living with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) going by the nickname of Tori. She writes under the name V.A. Salinas in honor of her late abuelita—lovingly called Lita—who came to America from a small Mexican village with nothing but the clothes on her back and her husband by her side. Lita had four sons, and Tori’s father was the youngest. When Tori was born, her Lita beamed with pride, calling her the first girl in the family and naming her muñeca princesa—her little princess.
Based near Brighton, Michigan, Tori spends most days crocheting from the comfort of her couch, composing music for guitar, ukulele, and piano, and crafting stories that live somewhere between heartache and hope—where love is fierce, survival is messy, and healing is never linear.
Her ever-faithful writing sidekick? A black cat named Jinx—named after her favorite Teen Titans character, of course.
Because at the end of the day, she’s a storyteller first—turning pain into prose, chaos into meaning, and always trying to make something beautiful out of the dark… even if it feels like it’s been a long time coming.
