V.A. Salinas is a chronically ill Zillennial author living with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) going by the nickname of Vic. She writes under the name V.A. Salinas in honor of her late abuelita—lovingly called Lita—who came to America from a small Mexican village with nothing but the clothes on her back and her husband by her side. Lita had four sons, and Vic’s father was the youngest. When Vic was born, her Lita beamed with pride, calling her the first girl in the family and dubbing her “muñeca princesa”.
Based near Flint, Michigan, Vic spends most days crocheting from the comfort of her couch, composing music for guitar, ukulele, and piano, and crafting stories that straddle the line between heartache and hope. Her ever-faithful writing sidekick? A black cat named Jinx—named after her favorite Teen Titans character, of course.
